I went to Caen GSM to have the protective glass over my phone’s main camera replaced.
After the replacement, I noticed a fingerprint on the inside of the glass. I simply asked the technician to clean it properly before installing it. Instead, he wiped it with his finger and asked me, in an irritated tone: “What don’t you like about it? Don’t teach me how to do my job!”
He then held the glass out to me and asked, in an increasingly aggressive tone: “Is it OK for you like this?”
The glass was eventually installed, and I was told to wait two hours while it set, with the phone held together by rubber bands.
That evening, I took a few photos and noticed that the camera quality had become noticeably worse: the images were blurry and had reflections. When I inspected the glass under good lighting, I found that it was still dirty on the inside.
It seems that €30 is not such a high price for a job that should involve properly heating and removing the old glass, cleaning off the remaining adhesive, degreasing the surface, applying the new adhesive, cleaning and degreasing the new glass, and carefully installing and securing it in place. Even for such a small and simple repair, the proper procedure matters - especially when working directly in front of a camera lens. Isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth would be a basic and appropriate way to clean an optical surface.
If the price is too low to allow enough time to carry out even a simple repair properly, then perhaps the price should be increased. But in that case, the quality of the work and the attention paid to the repair process should increase accordingly. A small piece of glass may seem insignificant, but it is part of the camera’s optical system, so it should still be treated with care.
The €30 itself is not the issue. I am perfectly willing to pay more than €30 for a proper repair. The problem is that the job was done carelessly, my reasonable request was dismissed, and I now have to redo the work myself.
I would not recommend this place.
